Gift Ideas: Photo-Engraved Lockets

It's one of my basic tenets of shopping to shop for gifts year-round and never last-minute.

Shopping Rule #1: Don't purchase in a panic!

That means that, yes, I've already bought some Christmas gifts and I've definitely bought most of my fall birthday gifts. In that vein, I thought I'd share this gift idea in case you all have any overly sentimental saps, such as myself on your shopping lists.

It's no secret that I love lockets. I have at least seven of them. I wore this huge one on my wedding day:

Pictures on Gold is a company that puts your photos on lockets (you send in a photo, they resize and edit it and put it directly on the metal of your choice).

Introducing Cellfire

Cellfire is a web site that will transfer coupons and savings to your grocery store cards. From what I can tell they are hooked up with discounts and coupons for Vons, Pavillions and Ralphs. You can register by giving them your email address, birth year, phone number and your store card number. Then you browse through the products on which they have savings in each store. For example they've got "Save .75 on Betty Crocker Supreme Brownie." You click the "Save to Card" link under that product and it sends that savings directly to your card. So you can go to the store, buy the brownies, show them your card and you'll get the 75 cent discount without a coupon. Seems pretty clever, right. I've signed up for it but don't know if it works. If anyone has tried this, let me know.

Amazon $5 album sale

Holy gumballs, Amazon has 100 albums for $5 each. This is very exciting if only because Jeff Buckley's Grace is one of those albums. Stop what you're doing and go out (stay in) and get this album (download the mp3 of the album). Then listen to it over and over again in your room, on your headphones, and play Track 6 (Hallelujah) over and over again and read all sorts of meaning into the line "love is not a victory march" and wonder what the heck that has to do with cutting your hair and bathing on the roof, and regret that you didn't play this song walking down the aisle (or In My Life, or Canon in D, for the love of ice cream) and remember that The Big Fella also vetoed it as a first dance, then maybe google your ex-boyfriends and call it a day! Sometimes I forget that this isn't Helene's Bad Mood. Anyway, buy Grace. It's super fantastical. If you have an extra 5 bucks burning a hole in your wallet, check these bad boys out:

Billy Idol, Greatest Hits (Don't hate. Dancing With Myself and Catch My Fall are awesome and not even in just a nostalgic way.)
Kings Of Leon, Because Of The Times (Not including the link because you're better off without this album. I haven't heard it but, trust me.... I'm an expert in bad music.)
Carole King, Tapestry (What?)
John Mayer, Continuum (ha ha)
The Beach Boys, Endless Summer (including Don't Worry Baby -- very very dreamy)
Rage Against The Machine, Rage Against The Machine [Explicit] (Is Tom Morello overrated, or what? Please discuss.)
Eddie Vedder, Music For The Motion Picture Into The Wild
Silversun Pickups, Swoon (Amazon MP3 Exclusive Version) [+Video] [+Digital Booklet]
Matisyahu, Light
Coldplay, A Rush Of Blood To The Head (Warning Sign and Amsterdam. Enough said.)
The Smashing Pumpkins, Siamese Dream
Simon And Garfunkel, Live From New York City, 1967
30 Seconds To Mars, A Beautiful Lie

Everclear, So Much For The Afterglow
(Santa Monica Blvd. in my Jeep Wrangler on my way to my multistate bar review class, singing at the top of my lungs to Father of Mine. Oh 1998.)
Duran Duran, Rio (2001 Remaster) (I'm not going to tell you my favorite track because it's too emabarassing.)
Ice Cube, The Essentials [Explicit] [+digital booklet]
Various Artists, Sex And The City: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack
Roxy Music, Flesh And Blood (Rio wishes it was this album.)
Nada Surf, The Weight Is A Gift
